West Island Resort has been registered under the Mauritius Real Estate Scheme (RES).
RES Schemes are a recent innovation in Mauritius, allowing foreigners to purchase freehold property on the Island.
Permanent residency permits are linked to the ownership of freehold property with an entry point of USD $500,000. After a number of years the purchaser may then apply for a Mauritian passport in addition to their residency permit.
The residency permit is extended to the owner's spouse and dependents.
The residency permit also entitles the resident to apply for an occupation certificate as an employee or to start a business in Mauritius.
