Nature on Mauritius West Coast

Explore the beauty of the West Coast in your own time and at your own pace - by foot, bike, or even on horse back.

Black River National Park

The park protects one of the rarest, tropical forest in the world. It contains over 300 species of native, endemic flowering plants and 9 species of birds which can only be found in Mauritius.

Tamarin Falls

Tamarin Falls are a series of seven cataracts located on the Rivière Tamarin with a beautiful, deep, cool bath at the bottom of the falls.

It requires a vigorous hike to get there but you will be richly rewarded with the opportunity to cool off in a pristine pool.

The Coloured Earths of the Chamaral Highlands

Among the strangest sites of the island are the seven-coloured dunes at Chamarel, not far from the magnificent Chamarel Falls.

The earths are particularly unusual; created by volcanic rocks that cooled at different temperatures, the earths form beautiful patterns of color in the exposed hillsides.

Casela Nature Park

The park has an area of 10 hectares and is home to 1,500 birds, giant tortoises, tigers, monkeys and many more species. Casela has much to offer in terms of leisure and activities for children, teenagers and adults alike. A park visit will take approximately 2 hours to complete.

Le Morne

Le Morne Brabant is one of two World Heritage sites in Mauritius. It is highlighted by an eponymous single standing basaltic rock that juts into the Indian Ocean and is surrounded by a beautiful turquoise lagoon.
